Bequests (Gifts in Wills)
Thank you for considering a gift in your Will to DCM.
Whatever the size of your gift, your generosity will make a lasting impact. You’ll make sure our neighbours who are rough sleeping or without shelter always have a place to come for connection and to access essential services.
No matter how big or small, a gift in your will is a meaningful way to make sure your values live on and continue to make Wellington a more compassionate and thriving city for everyone in it.
How to Include DCM in Your Will
We want to use your gift in a way that fulfils your wishes. We can either use your bequest for our general purposes or a specific purpose, outlined below. Our preference is for bequests for general purposes because it means we can use your gift where there is the greatest need. We are incredibly grateful when people like you put their trust in us to meet the needs of our most marginalised neighbours. However, we welcome gifts in support of our specific services, and you can find out more about our services below.
Please find below an explanation of the types of bequests we are able to accept. We strongly suggest you discuss your bequest with your solicitor and that they sight your final letter to us to ensure your wishes are fulfilled.
Residuary Bequest - here you make a gift of what is left over or a percentage thereof (the residue) in your estate after all expenses and debts have been settled and your other beneficiaries have been provided for.
Specified Bequest – this is where a particular item of value (for example stocks and shares, property or works of art) is gifted.
Pecuniary Bequest – this means a specified sum of money in your Will is gifted.
Whichever form of bequest you choose, leaving a gift in your will is a meaningful way to make a lasting change, and to uplift our most marginalised neighbours for generations to come. Whatever the size of your gift, you will make an incredible difference. A gift of just 1% of your estate can provide lifechanging support for our whānau, whilst making sure your loved ones are provided for.
I’d like to Include DCM in an existing will
If you have already written your Will and would like to include DCM, you can do so by adding a codicil (a legal document that allows you to make changes to your will without creating a new one). We recommend asking your solicitor for help with this.
DCM is already in my will
You don’t need to tell us if you have included a gift to DCM in your will, or any of the details of your gift. However, if you have already included a gift to DCM in your will, we would love to have the opportunity to thank you personally.
I want to discuss leaving a gift in my will
If you’d like to discuss your intentions in more detail or to visit DCM to find out more about the work a gift in your will could make possible, please contact our Pūrongo team, Rachel and Catherine, on 022 479 0409 or donate@dcm.org.nz.
We are truly grateful for your support and for trusting us with your wishes. Thank you.
