Mind the Gap! Get Ready for Our May Foodbank Appeal

Our May Food bank appeal is just a couple of weeks away. This event sees our wonderful volunteers set up food collection points at local supermarkets around the city, and our wonderful communities donate much needed kai for our Foodbank. This year you can find us at new World Wellington City and New World Newtown from 9am-5pm, Saturday 23rd May.

So, where's the gap?

It's humbling to approach this annual milestone and reflect on what has changed for us and our whānau over the last few years. Sadly, like many charities around the motu, the demand for our services has increased sharply over the last few years.

155 whānau received food parcels in July - September 2023, while 235 whānau received food support in October - December 2025.

Our two annual Food bank appeals used to top up our cupboard to meet the needs of our community for the whole year. These days, we spend an additional $1,000 each week on kai for our food parcels due to a huge increase in demand among our community. As our Foodbank is funded solely through donations and gifts of kai, we rely on the generosity of people like you to support our whānau.

This year we're asking that you help us 'bridge the gap' by getting behind our Foodbank appeal. If you can, please consider donating kai to help stock our emergency food parcels.

Tell your neighbours! Tell your whānau! And we’ll see you on May 23rd.
