Moe Mai Rā (Rest now)

Every year at Matariki, DCM staff and whānau gather to remember and honour the lives of the those we’ve lost. This year, we lit candles and spoke names for eleven members of our DCM whānau who passed away in the past twelve months.

Each of these people were respected and valued by our team. Each had a story. And each deserved more time.

We hold this memorial not only to say goodbye, but to show that every life matters, and that no one should be forgotten.

We know that experiencing homelessness shortens lives and to us, that is unacceptable. We continue to work towards a Wellington where everyone is housed, connected, and valued. A city where memorials like this are no longer needed.

Mānawatia a Matariki. Let us remember, let us reflect, and let us keep working towards a better future for everyone.
