Support our rough sleeping neighbours
Wellington is facing a homelessness crisis and we need your support to give shelter to people who are rough sleeping this winter.
Tonight, all over Wellington, our neighbours will be sheltering in doorways or sleeping in their vehicles.
Outside in freezing temperatures, with no home and no shelter.
Neighbours like Tāne*, who was evicted from his long-term home.
“For about eight months, I was rough sleeping, in and out of hospital, and just trying to survive.”
Living with addiction and struggling to afford food, he desperately needed support, connection, advocacy and shelter.
Please consider a donation to offer Crisis Accommodation to a neighbour like Tāne this winter.
Rough sleeping in Wellington has increased by 40% since 2024.
But because there’s a shortage of suitable, long-term housing available to our whānau, it’s not as straightforward as connecting with someone, advocating for them and finding them a home.
When people are turned away from emergency housing, or asked to come back tomorrow for an assessment, it means spending another night locked out, just trying to survive.
Kyle from DCM’s Toro Atu (Outreach) team (pictured below) has seen the crisis first-hand.
“On a day-to-day basis, I’m finding whānau who are desperately needing housing. We’re seeing people with physical health needs, people with brain injuries and complex trauma.”
Can you imagine how it feels to find every door closed as the weather gets wetter and colder?

With the Move-On Orders looming and Wellington moving between Red and Orange weather warnings, the need for shelter and safety has never been greater.
